About Elizabeth

Elizabeth Bartolomeo currently lives in SW Austin with her wonderful husband, John, and 2 sweet (sometimes mischievous) kids, Canyon and Sierra.  She has befriended 4 cats, a guinea pig, 4 fish, and several humans.

She graduated from college in art, is a certified teacher, and studied Montessori for years.  She worked many years helping patients with cancer through the American Cancer Society.  Elizabeth considers healing and teaching essential to the empowerment of the soul.  And while she’s not particularly religious, she often thinks about how people’s actions reflect on the spirit and what behaviors comprise making the world a better place.

Elizabeth feels that art is not a talent but an expression of the soul and often the end result of a higher communication.  Her paintings reflect years of experience and study.

Elizabeth daydreams about the different ways to paint the ceiling or carve a mural or build a fountain.  Sometimes, she ends up painting furniture or a wall in her house and often can be found helping her brother with his crazy, but fantastic projects.

Driven by insomnia, adrenaline, and bitter coffee, paintings are a late night creative by product.  My paintings reveal a forgotten insight, a detailed beauty, or a dreamy hallucination.  Some think that the creation of art is an extension of one’s self that reflects the state of the soul -either by imitating it or forming its polar opposite so that the soul can escape.  I often wonder if art is the result of a conversation with higher spirits that exist outside our world.  A prayer embodied in a visual language lip-syncing the human story of struggle.  The paint brush becomes an overpass delivering its secret message in paint to the canvas on contact.  The artist, nothing but a toll booth.
